My dad and I were having a conversation once and we got onto the topic of social justice and political correctness.
I basically told him how I believe individuals should be responsible for their actions and the blame shouldn't be placed anywhere else, i.e, a black kid gets shot after robbing a store and his family blame the cop who shot him instead of admitting that their son did wrong.
Yeah, I understand it's hard to accept that your child had to die, but also understand that he had a gun and would have probably killed someone else if he had to, and the cop was only doing his job. Had he not shot and killed your son, he would have been risking his own life and the lives of others. Detach yourself from emotion for a moment and realize your kid was unfortunately the bad guy in this situation and he paid for his actions.
Anyhow, after saying this, my father went on to say "wait, are you a conservative? Because that's incredibly conservative to say."
???
How is that a conservative thing to say?
I'm not burning down an abortion clinic or mocking democrats, I'm stating a fact.
Is that really a conservative thing?
Thanks for sharing this wonderful article. Google
people are not self aware of them selves. if you can see yourself as other people see you , you give yourself the benefit of the doubt when you dont deserve it
Well I never said anyone was executed for robbing. Although this exact incident I mention is fictional, it definitely can, has, and will continue to happen.
If a cop sees someone with a gun, and that person aims the gun at the cop or another person, at that moment they are intending to kill someone. The cop must make a decision, let the robber shoot an innocent person, or shoot and hopefully only incapacitate the person. Tazors of course exist but they have their limitations. I know if there was a robber in my home and they were pointing a gun at my loved one, I'd prefer a cop shoot them than my son, daughter, or husband get killed for the sake of hoping the robber will have a sudden change of heart. Whether they die or not was a gamble they took when they decided to break into my home and threaten the lives of my family.
we have a justice system for a reason. this isnt the wild west, we dont need to kill criminals when we can rehabilitate them. crime exists for reasons beyond human flaws. something made that person feel it was necessary to commit a crime. lets address that before we start executing people for robbing.
Conservatives, from my own perspective, are usually Christian, anti-abortion, in some cases anti-gay or anti-trans, and pro-traditional family unit (one man and one woman.) Though, from what I have seen a few conservatives are becoming more lenient to the point where they don't care what you do, just don't expect the government or society to bail you out of it.
Liberals are usually pro-LGBT rights, pro-choice, and in at least a few cases support polyamory (although I haven't seen many support polygamy.)
I'm in the middle on everything but abortion, so I don't see how I lean as a liberal or a conservative. As far as I'm concerned, just don't hurt anyone with anything you do.
But you're right, modern day people can't be held accountable for their actions. It's gotten so bad that if a woman is told by a man that he is rich, sleeps with him, then finds out he's not rich, he can be accused of rape because he lied about who he is.
If that were the case then the woman in Maid in Manhattan brutally raped the rich man she was sleeping with because she was definitely not who he thought she was.
But it doesn't count if a woman does it, remember that -_-
I'm not even America, so I'm unsure what conservative and liberal mean by definition, and what it means as a way of life. It simply sounds logical, correct, that any sentient being will be responsible for its actions.
Modern humans just can't handle responsibility. There's no concept of "I'm responsible for my actions, and if I do something wrong, the blame's on me".
I live by the motto of "you reap what you sow", hence I'm responsible for my actions and their consequences. Alas, I'm a very small minority in this world, or so it feels to like.
